Driving the future workforce for Tamborine Mountain

Posted: 10th Sep

Cedar Creek Lodges are leading the charge to support future growth of new workers in the tourism and hospitality sector on Tamborine Mountain, which will increase economic growth for the business and broader community

Cedar Creek Lodges is located amongst 114 hectares of subtropical rainforest and open woodlands at Thunderbird Park, the facility is part of the Scenic Rim hinterland region of South East Queensland, Australia.

Through consultation with local tourism and hospitality providers on Tamborine Mountain and surrounding areas, it had been identified that theris need to establish programs that can assist in the development of new workers with the skills required by employers. Cedar Creek Lodges General Manager, Tamara Gray had observed that there is always a need for trained staff to work in their business, along with other businesses on the Mountain. This lead her to asking the question 'why can't we grow our own staff and support the roles that are available now and potentially in the future'.

Tamara, in conjunction with Scenic Rims Regional Councils Regional Skills Investment Officer, has established a pilot program to create skilled workers for the hospitality and tourism sector.

The pilot program called On the Mountain Hospitality, begins 6 October 2020, and will be delivered over 12 weeks. The program incorporates on the job training and work experience, with applicants gaining experience in a real work life environment within the hospitality and tourism industry.

On The Mountain Hospitality will be delivered and supported by Kidz Foods Inc, a local not for profit organisation, the Department of Employment Small Business and Training and the Department of Employment Skills and EducationThese departments support programs such as Skilling Queenslanders for work and Job Active providers.

There are opportunities to extend this program to other business requiring assistance to source staff skilled in hospitality.
